Jose Ma. C. Avila, MD is a member of the Editorial Board of Western Pacific Region Index Medicus (WPRIM) and a member of the Research Utilization Committee of the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD). He is also the Chairman and a Professor of the Department of Pathology, College of Medicine, University of the Philippines, Manila. Dr. Avila was President of the Philippine Society of Pathologists from 2002-2003 and was Chief of the Surgical Pathology Section of the Department of Laboratories, Philippine General Hospital from 2003-2006. He was also a recipient of various awards for outstanding research and publication. He has several articles published locally and internationally.
Vicente Y. Belizario, Jr., MD, MTM&H is the Deputy Director of the National Institutes of Health, University of the Philippines, Manila and a Professor at the Department of Parasitology, College of Public Health, University of the Philippines, Manila. He is also the Vice Chair of the Coalition for the Elimination of Lymphatic Filariasis in the Philippines (CELF-Philippines) and the Editor of Southeast Asian Journal of Tropical Medicine and Public Health, the official journal of the Southeast Asia Ministers of Education Organization- Tropical Medicine and Public Health Network (SEAMEO-TROPMED Network). Dr. Belizario is a recipient of various university and national awards for excellence in teaching, research and publications. He is also an editor and contributor of the Philippine Textbook of Medical Parasitology and has many scientific publications on neglected tropical and parasitic diseases in several local and international journals.
Cynthia P. Cordero, MS is a Professor at the Department of Clinical Epidemiology, College of Medicine, University of the Philippines, Manila and a Statistician at the Institute of Human Genetics, National Institutes of Health, University of the Philippines, Manila. She is also a Professional Consultant Scientist at the Clinical Investigation Department in the Medical Affairs Division of United Laboratories and Data Analyst and Consultant of the Foundation for the Advancement of Clinical Epidemiology. Prof. Cordero is also the recipient of University of the Philippines Centennial Faculty Grant in 2008. She has authored a number of papers and developed teaching tools.
Eva Maria C. Cutiongco-de la Paz, MD is the Assistant Director and a Research Faculty of the Institute of Human Genetics, National Institutes of Health, University of the Philippines, Manila. She is also a Clinical Associate Professor of the Department of Pediatrics, College of Medicine and Philippine General Hospital, University of the Philippines. Dr. Cutiongco-de la Paz received the distinction of being one of The Outstanding Women in the Nation’s Service (TOWNS) in 2007. She was also a TOYM (Ten Outstanding Young Men) awardee for the field of Genetic Medicine in 2002 and was recognized by the National Academy of Science and Technology as one of Ten Outstanding Young Scientists in the same year. She is a fellow of the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists and a member of the American Society of Human Genetics.
Rodney B. Dofitas, MD is the Coordinator for Training and Research and Head of Expanded Hospital Research Office at the Philippine General Hospital. He is also a Clinical Associate Professor in Surgery at the College of Medicine, University of the Philippines, Manila and Co-chair of Research Implementation and Development Office. Dr. Dofitas is also involved in Circuit Course with Surgical Mission in Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital in Roxas City.
Marie Carmela M. Lapitan, MD is a Clinical Associate Professor in Surgery at the College of Medicine, University of the Philippines, Manila and Research Assistant Professor IV at the National Institutes of Health, University of the Philippines, Manila. She is the Vice President of the Continence Foundation of the Philippines and Editorial Board Member of the Cochrane Incontinence Review Group. She authored numerous research works on urinary continence, andrology, general urology and general surgery, published in international and local scientific peer-reviewed journals and presented in several local and international conventions.
Alvin B. Marcelo, MD is a surgeon and an acknowledged leader in health information management in the Philippines with more than ten years of experience in health informatics. He was one of the awardees of The Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) of 2005 for Medicine/Medical Informatics. Dr. Marcelo was an Associate Professor and Chief of UP Medical Informatics Unit and Director of UP Manila National Telehealth Center from 2001-2006.
Nemencio A. Nicodemus, Jr., MD is an Associate Professor and Vice Chairman for Academic Affairs at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, College of Medicine, University of the Philippines, Manila, and Clinical Associate Professor in the Section of Adult Medicine, Department of Medicine, UP-Philippine General Hospital. He is also an Associate Professor at the Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health, a member of the faculty of Asia Pacific Center for Evidence-based Medicine, and Training Officer at the Department of Medicine of Manila Doctors Hospital. Dr. Nicodemus has edited a book in Diabetes and written several journal articles published locally. He was principal investigator and worked as part of collaborative group in a number of clinical trials.
Pilarita N. Tongol-Rivera, MD, PhD is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Parasitology, College of Public Health, University of the Philippines, Manila and an Affiliate Faculty of the University of the Philippines Open University. She has earned her Doctor of Philosophy degree at the Gunma University in Japan. She was one of the recipients of Centennial Professorial Chair in 2008.Dr. Tongol-Rivera has several researches/articles published locally and internationally and has written a number of modules, manuals and books.
